JACOB

You can look at this in a number of ways.

If you look at 1929, the drop in the stock market was short, then a second wave hit. There wasn't the protections we have today, but the problem was the government kept messing with the economy to fix it... and anything the government tries to fix, it makes worse.

If you look at this worldwide, you have to look at what the world needs. China will need lots of oil soon. They need lots of food now. The Middle East can't live on cheap oil. Technology for alternate fuels are a decade or two away from being implemented and another 10 to 20 years to be in full effect.

The stock market will recover. but the question is will the US recover fast enough? If you are smart, invest in oil futures now while they are cheap. You almost missed the boat on gold (China's hoarding gold to pay for their needs in the future). I'm personally in those as well as in Wheat, rice and corn.

NORMAN

no....the worst times are still ahead.

They say by middle of next year 2 out 10 american homes will be in foreclosure.

The crisis so far has only been mostly on wall street. We are just now starting to hear about massive layoffs happening...its going to spread. Banks are hoarding money and not lending..even after they got bailed.

The next shoe to drop will be these states and cities and counties laying off thousands of government services workers due to budget shortfalls due to less property taxes being collected and less sales tax revenue.

Housing prices will not recove for several years...they will drop further and may not bounce back to even where they were 6 months ago until 5 years from between 5 to 10 years from now.

The stock market has dropped quite a bit, but it will drop further as the bad news rolls in.

Dick Cheney has already liquidated his assets from dollars to other currencies and Halliburton ..the war profiteering firm is not even an american company now. Its now located in Dubai, and I think Cheney is building a retirement home there too.

Seems like the market didn't like that the congress didn't approve the loan to the Big 3?

KELLY

Be careful of the dead cat bounce, that's when it starts looking like a big gain right after a fall but then it sinks lower. But there is still too much uncertainty for the market to pop back right now,

ALLEN

If you look at the big crash of 1929, there was an initial one-day plunge, then the market began to come back and there was another drop, lower than the first one. And this happened several times, like a ball bouncing down a flight of stairs.

So it's hard to say. Some people think there are great bargains to be had, others believe the stock market is still overvalued. If you knew for sure, you could get rich!
